Monreale is a town in the province of Palermo, in Sicily, Italy on the slope of Monte Caputo. It’s located south of Palermo and has a population of approximately 30,000. I visited Monreale in July of 2013 with my family on our way to the town of Milo. It was necessary to visit this town because both of my paternal grandparents were from Monreale. They were married here and then came to America ,settled in New York City and had 7 children. I was most pleasantly surprised to see how special the town was. It was typical of the other towns but what it had for me was the fact that I could experience my ” roots”. The town also boasted many restaurants and a beautiful Duomo di Monreale, a cathedral of great magnitude. I will be posting photos of the Duomo at a later date. Everything about Monreale was picturesque. This photo I took of a neighboring home was typical of many homes in the area.
